Handmade Ceramic Lighting

From Earth.
Shaped by Hand.

A handful of clay, shaped by hand, glazed and kiln-fired into a sculpture that glows. Every texture you see carries the warmth of the maker's hand.

The Material

Begins with Clay

The story of ceramic begins with natural clay – a material with a mind of its own: moist, pliable, shifting under the pressure of a hand. It's this living quality that makes every shade one of a kind before it's even formed.

Its natural grain and texture are preserved, then fired into a soft, warm glaze – a quality molded plastic and metal can never replicate.

The Making

Every step passes through human hands

From clay to light, each piece passes through five hand-finished stages.
No assembly-line molds – so what you receive isn't a copy, but a work.

Throwing on pottery wheel
01

Thrown by hand

Hand-throwing sets the curve and wall thickness of each shade.

Shaping and trimming clay
02

Shaped & carved

Hand-trimmed to form – fluting, ruffles, or pierced cutouts are carved in.

Hand glazing ceramics
03

Hand-glazed

Glazed one by one, setting the final color and feel.

Kiln fired texture
04

Kiln-fired

Fired at high heat to set the form – durable and fade-resistant.

Polishing and refining ceramic details
05

Refined details

Post-firing, edges are meticulously hand-sanded to ensure a flawless, smooth tactile finish.

Surface & Form

One material, many expressions

Because each piece is shaped by hand, ceramic can take on countless forms –
from a softly diffusing shade to a warm, substantial base.

Smooth matte ceramic dome shade
01

Smooth Matte

Glazed Dome
A perfectly smooth matte dome with no texture; lit, the whole shade glows evenly for the softest, purest halo. Crisp white paired with a brass socket.
Fluted and scalloped ceramic shade
02

Fluted + Scalloped

Ribbed
Fine vertical fluting combined with a scalloped edge – lit, the ridges draw delicate bands of light and shadow while the wavy rim softens the silhouette.
Pierced openwork ceramic shade with lace edge
03

Pierced Openwork

Lace Edge
Leaf-shaped cutouts pierce the body, with a scalloped lace edge; lit, light escapes through the openings and casts a ring of warm, dappled glow – vintage and refined.
Glossy ruffled wavy ceramic shade
04

Ruffled

Wavy Gloss
A glossy glaze sculpted into broad, ruffled waves like an opening bloom; light spills freely from the open wavy edge as the glossy surface follows every curve.
Glossy red ovoid ceramic base lamp
05

Glossy Ovoid Base

Ceramic Base
A rounded, ovoid ceramic base in a rich glossy glaze, smooth as a river stone to the touch.
Teal crackle-glaze cylindrical ceramic base lamp
06

Crackle-Glaze Base

Ceramic Base
A cylindrical ceramic base in deep teal crackle glaze, its surface covered in fine, naturally-formed cracks no two of which run alike; paired with a brass mushroom shade for a calm, refined look.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are ceramic shades fragile?
Ceramic shades are high-fired and sturdy in everyday use. Much like ceramic dinnerware, they last for years as long as you avoid dropping them or knocking them against hard objects.
What's the difference between the surface finishes?
The main difference is in the light. Smooth gives the most even glow; fluted ribs draw lines of light and shadow; pierced openwork lets light escape and cast patterns; ruffled waves make the glow soft and fluid. Choose by the mood you want.
What bulb does it use?
It usually takes a standard E26 / E27 or E12 / E14 screw-base bulb. We recommend 2700–3000K warm white for the most comfortable ambience; for dimming, use a dimmable bulb with a compatible dimmer.
Will every piece look exactly the same?
Glaze color and texture may vary slightly. Hand-forming and hand-glazing make each piece a little different – a hallmark of handmade ceramic, not a defect.
