Light that breathes
through porcelain.
Hand-pierced ceramic shades on aged brass. Six pieces from one Italian farmhouse idea – a lamp that throws a soft, freckled glow across the room the moment it's switched on.
Inspiration
It began with a colander in the afternoon sun.
In the kitchens of rural Umbria, pierced ceramic has done humble work for centuries – draining pasta, cooling bread, letting steam escape. Set one in a window and something else happens: the light pours through every hole and scatters across the wall in a pattern that moves as the sun does.
Anita takes that everyday moment and turns it upward. The perforations are placed by hand along the shoulder of each shade, so the glow spills sideways and up – never in a hard beam – and the scalloped rim softens the edge of the light the way a lace curtain softens a window.
Materials
Two materials, both allowed to age
Anita is made from things that get better with time rather than worse.
Satin-glazed stoneware
A high-fired white body under a soft, slightly translucent glaze. Unlit, it reads as warm eggshell; lit, the whole dome takes on a faint inner glow before the light even reaches the holes.

Unlacquered antique brass
Solid brass tube and cast fittings, hand-finished to a warm antique tone and left unlacquered. It will darken gently at the touch points over the years – a patina, not a flaw.

The making
Three slow steps, one small shade
Every Anita shade is thrown, pierced and glazed by hand. No two carry exactly the same constellation of holes – and that is the point.

Throw & shape
A fine white stoneware body is thrown on the wheel and trimmed to a thin, even wall. Thin enough to glow faintly when lit; thick enough to survive decades over a kitchen table.
Pierce by hand
While the clay is still leather-hard, the artisan works a band of perforations around the shoulder with a needle tool, then cuts the scalloped edge freehand. Spacing is judged by eye, so each shade has its own rhythm.
Fire & glaze
Two firings: a bisque at 1000 °C to set the form, then a soft satin glaze at 1230 °C that gives the surface its eggshell warmth. The brass fitter is threaded in afterwards and left unlacquered to age naturally.
The shape
A dome, a pierced shoulder, a scalloped hem

The pierced shoulder
Perforations sit high on the dome, where the shade curves away from the bulb. Light leaves at an angle and lands on the ceiling and walls as soft freckles rather than sharp spots.
The brass fitter
A turned brass collar threads directly into the ceramic – no visible screws, no plastic. It's the only metal that touches the shade, and it's sized to take a standard E26 / E27 bulb.
The scalloped hem
Cut freehand before firing, the rim rises and falls in gentle, uneven waves. Seen from below it reads as lace; from the side it keeps the glare of the bulb out of your eyes.
Lights on, lights off
Two different lamps in one
Drag the handle. By day Anita is a quiet ceramic object; at dusk it becomes the pattern on your ceiling.
Same room, same pendant – 5:40 pm and 8:10 pm.
Where it lives
Made for the rooms you actually use
Anita was drawn for kitchens, bedsides and hallways – the places where a hard overhead light is the last thing you want.
Over the table
The three-arm Flower Chandelier at 30–34″ above the surface – bright enough to eat by, soft enough to linger.
Beside the bed
A Wall Lamp or Swag Light on either side; the pierced shoulder puts the glow on the wall, not in your eyes.
Low ceilings, small rooms
The Semi-Flush Mount tucks under 8-ft ceilings and washes the corridor in freckled light.

Care
Ten seconds a month
Ceramic and brass ask for very little. Here's all of it.
- Dust the shade with a dry microfibre cloth. The perforations trap little, but a soft brush clears them in a pass.
- Clean glaze with a barely damp cloth only – never soak the shade or run it under a tap.
- Avoid abrasive pads and brass polish on the fittings unless you want them bright; the patina is meant to stay.
- Replace bulbs with the power off and let the shade cool first – thin ceramic dislikes sudden temperature change.
